SATURDAY / SUNDAY
To start off the first leg of my Colorado trip I met up with an old friend from college, his wife and their two year old. It was good to see Jason, his home and meet his family. Props to him for letting me crash at his place.
Later that evening I went out with some friends from Nashville who happened to be in Denver for the weekend. I met them at Duffey's Cherry Cricket, a very loud bar with an amazing burger and some Odells beer. Seeking a more quiet venue where we could all talk we sought out an Irish pub. We found a quaint pub called The Irish Hound. We shared story after story of our own mishaps with animals. Everything from rabid skunks, truck loads of injured puppies to cats coming back to life.
From there the ladies, or as I called the Angels, Renee, Katie, and Sarah. They wanted to show me a very effeminate building in downtown Denver. Apparently there was a clock tower that needed to be saved and it was lit up with pink and fuchsia colors. I kept waiting for Doc and Marty to show up in a Delorean but they never showed.
By this time Katie really had to "use it." After many attempts to locate a public facility a kind security guard let us into his building to pee. He was from Ashville, North Carolina and bonded with us once he learned we were from Nashville, TN. He was quality!
By this time we were getting the munchies and went out to find a Village Inn. Much like a Denney's, except for the fact that they closed early. Renee suggested we find a Waffle House. Now, Village Inn was already north of Denver, the closest WH was even further north. Upon arriving at said WH we noticed that there was a shop for adult products right next door. We had fun with this. Especially the marquis. We didnt really have time to eat and by this time the munchies had subsided and delirium had set in, being it was 3AM. So, we decided to leave.
Sarah, the driver decided that she didnt need the navigational system (affectionately named Danny) nor did she need Major and his iPhone for directions. She was going to return me to my car all by her self. After being spot on to the general location Sarah became discouraged and accepted some "Hot" or "Cold" ques from me. She got us back to Duffeys Cherry Cricket and found my car. Fantastic job Sarah!
To end a fun night I made my way back to Jasons house. After going to bed their 300 lb Lab, Romeo, decided to come sleep with me, then he left. As I dozed off I heard him come back into the room and then I hear what I think is someone turning on a sink. Then I realize whats happening, Romeo, the huge beast that he is, is peeing all over something. Dear Lord please dont let him be peeing into my duffel bag full of clothes. As I sprang into action, turning on the lamp and looking for the swimming pool of urine I see Romeo exiting the room. Luckily he did his business at the end of the bed. I cleaned it all up. Shut my bedroom door and crawled back in bed.
To end a perfect 24 hours in Denver Jason took the fam and I out for brunch at Yaya's. It was amazing. He use to work there and Yaya's is where he met his wife. After brunch we all took naps and then I loaded my car and headed for Fort Collins, CO.
